Universities UKUniversities UK is a Company limited by guarantee with charitable status. It was founded in 1918. It is supported through subscription by its members' institutions. At April 2007 Universities UK membership stands at 128 including all the UK university institutions and some colleges of higher education. All the UK universities are members of Universities UK. In addition to its Vice-Chancellor, the University of London has 15 other members. The Vice-Chancellors of the constituent institutions of the University of Wales, and the Principals and Chief Executives of the university colleges in Cardiff and Newport are also in membership of Universities UK. Higher education (HE) colleges in Wales are also associate members of Universities UK. HE colleges in Scotland are also entitled to associate membership. Universities UK has three autonomous National Councils covering England and Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Universities Scotland represents Heads of higher education instituitions (HEIs) in Scotland and Higher Education Wales represents Heads of HEIs in Wales. The England and Northern Ireland Council represents the remaining members on issues that do not have UK-wide implications.
