The Publishers Association is the leading trade organisation serving book, journal and electronic publishers in the UK. It brings publishers together to discuss the main issues facing the industry and to define the practical policies that will take the industry forward. The aim of The Publishers Association is to serve and promote by all lawful means the interest of book journal and electronic publishers and to protect those interests. We bring publishers together to discuss the critical issues facing the industry and to define the practical policies which will drive our lobbying and campaigns in the UK and internationally.

The aim of The Publishers Association is to ensure a secure future for the UK publishing industry and its mission is to strengthen the trading environment for UK publishers by ensuring that the needs and concerns of the industry are heard at all levels of Government in the UK, in Europe and internationally. We are actively involved in issues such as:

  • copyright legislation
  • the adaptation of legislation to digital technology
  • copyright licensing arrangements for education, business, and public bodies
  • legislation on VAT, e-commerce and other issues affecting publishers
  • funding for learning and information resources in schools, colleges, and universities
  • the promotion of books and reading
  • export promotion of books and journals
  • anti-piracy campaigns (terrestrial and internet)
  • efficiency in supply and marketing
  • the protection of freedom to publish
