Photonics KTN

Knowledge Transfer Networks Accelerating business innovation; a Technology Strategy Board programme

In the Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network, our primary activities include being the voice of and point of contact for photonics in the UK. We welcome and seek out international opportunities for collaboration or commerce, and routinely act as a broker, routing enquiries from around the world to the appropriate company or university in the UK.

Another specific part of our remit is that we speak for our sector to government and give a coordinated voice about what support should be available, for example in selection of technologies suitable for assisting collaborative R&D funding competitions. We deliver a lot of this activity in the form of meetings and seminars, individual contacts – and of course the web platform that we share with the other KTNs.

The Photonics KTN came about as a follow-on from the previous government “instruments” to promote knowledge transfer in this sector: the Smart Optics and EPPIC Faraday Partnerships. Members of the KTN team who have been with the activity that long have certainly noticed the differences in our approach. We would really value input from our community, about what we do well and where we could improve. Do contact us.

Smart optics includes optical & photonic devices, systems, processes and technologies exploitable in a wide range of globally important markets. Some examples are:
