The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales is the largest professional accountancy body in Europe with over 128,000 members.

The Institute was established by Royal Charter in 1880. It is now a key influencer on the international stage and the leading UK body of finance professionals offering world class qualifications.

The Institute works in the public interest to promote enterprise, innovation and sustainable growth in a socially responsible business environment.

Our strength and knowledge are drawn from the expertise of our members who hold world class finance qualifications. They work in every sector of the economy, size of business and public body, from global company boardrooms and government departments, to high street practitioners, small businesses and charities. Their experience gives us an acute understanding of the dynamics which drive our economy from entrepreneurship and well-informed markets to efficient public services.

The ICAEW Public Affairs Team works across the Institute, with our technical specialists and member volunteers, to ensure we provide appropriate responses to the legislative and policy development processes of both the UK and EU. We take every opportunity to meet with Ministers, politicians and civil servants to communicate the views of our members on important issues. We work to influence decision makers on how legislation could be changed for the better.

As well as responding to emerging and current issues, through our public policy and thought leadership, we seek to help shape the future agenda on issues that affect the UK and international economy.
