Consortium (BRC) is the leading trade
association representing the whole range of UK

Its role is to defend and enhance where
possible, the economic, political and social
climate in which its members operate.
BRC members include the large multiples and
department stores, small and medium sized
independent retailers and charity shops. BRC

through centre of town, out of town, rural and
virtual stores, reflecting the diversity of
modern retailing.

VAT-registered retail businesses in the UK
operating in more than 322,000 retail outlets.
our vision
To work with our members to create a vibrant and
sustainable retail industry for the future.
mission
To make life easier for our members by:
- Campaigning to promote and defend
retailers' interests
- Advising retailers of threats and
opportunities to their business
- Improving the perceptions of retailing
in the UK
- Offering members a range of services and
products which add value to their business
The work of the BRC is structured around
Policy Action Groups (PAG's).
Members of the PAG's meet regularly to discuss,
debate and form responses to Government on
policies that could add burdens on the retail
sector should they be approved unchallenged.
Within each PAG are a number of Working Groups
which focus on specific issues.
Only BRC retail and trade association members
are permitted to join a PAG or Working Group.
influencing Government
The BRC works closely with government on all
campaigning and policy issues on behalf of our
members, and have built a firm and constructive
relationship with all the governmental
departments detailed below. Click on the links
shown to the left for more information about
each governmental department. In addition to
this, the BRC has strong ties and dealings with
the numerous regulatory agencies and
Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs)
