Improving
the Intellectual Property Framework to Meet the Needs of Innovative Industry
From the beginning of January 2009, the IP Federation became the
operating name for the Trade Marks, Patents and Designs Federation. The
new name portrays a contemporary, fresher image for the Federation, which
continues to represent the views of UK industry on intellectual property (IP)
policy and practice matters within the EU, the UK and internationally.
The Federation was founded in 1920 and today enjoys an
enviable reputation for its professional and insightful views on IP strategy,
policy and legislation. It is testimony to the work and standing of the
Federation that many of the earliest members are still members today. But the
Federation has always moved with the times and has continually attracted new
members, many of those in industries which did not even exist when the
Federation was founded.
Policy papers produced by the
Federation are the result of rigorous debate among leading corporate IP
practitioners and, as such, are well informed and based on practical expert
experience. The Federation’s views are widely circulated – and welcomed - among
IP decision-makers and influencers in UK, Europe and beyond. Notably, the
Federation is the only pan-sectoral, industry group in the UK dedicated to the
full range of IP (patents, trade marks, designs, copyright, etc). Since
its members are not only IP owners but also users of IP owned by others the
Federation is recognised for its balanced arguments reflecting the many facets
of the IP debate.
