Institution of Engineering and Technology
The
Institution of Engineering and Technology (the IET) is the largest professional
engineering society in Europe and the second largest of its type in the world,
with more than 150,000 members, and a history which can be traced back to 1871.
The IET represents the profession
of electrical, electronic, information technology (IT), manufacturing and
systems engineering and related sciences.
IET activities in which
Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are key include: -

Issuing wiring
regulations for dwellings, buildings and industry; and taking a leading part in
the formulation of national and international standards.

Operating a
computer-assisted information service, Inspec, which has the world’s largest
computerised database in the English language in physics, electro-technology,
computer science and control engineering.

Providing an
extensive range of lectures, meetings, conferences, seminars and knowledge
transfer networks.
·
Providing business
and technical information on electrical, electronic, IT and manufacturing
subjects through publication of journals, proceedings, and books.

Operating an
Internet web-television service:

The Institution comprises
technical experts through to business leaders, across industry, government and
academia, such that all facets of IPR are important to its membership.
